2011 September Wallpaper

A celebration of storms and roadtrips. Taken in the Grand Tetons a while back on a very different road trip then the one I’m on now. . . . Hit the image above and grab the high-resolution option from the lightbox that comes up.  Read More

The New Camera for Street Photography

It’s so easy to fall down the well of “need great gear to make great pictures.” It’s a compelling argument. It’s why camera manufacturers get celebrities to endorse their gear. Sometimes even celebrity photographers. Gear has it’s own eco-system of advertising and reviews that feed more advertising. It’s complicated. But taking pictures shouldn’t be. Chase Jarvis kicked things off with the “Best... Read More

Federal Protection Services and Photography

At first when I saw this article in The New York Times photography blog Lens I was pretty stoked. Nice to have some documentation in hand that indicates what your rights are when out and about taking pictures. Of course, I was viewing it on my iPad and, as a remarkable device as it is it’s not exactly conducive to printing something out. Yet. Get into my office and discover that the links they’re providing are, to put it kindly, a bit... Read More

Goodbye St. John and iPhonetography

We left St. John yesterday. Back to the grind of the real world. The good news is that I’ve got a 147 frames to edit through, so I can sort of relive things for a little while. I snapped these two shots with the iPhone on the ferry and had posted them to my Flickr account, Twitter and Facebook before we set foot on St. Thomas. (There’s still some issues with the WordPress iPhone app that need to be worked out a bit.) I’ve gotten... Read More

Welcome to St. John

After a very long day we made it to St. John just as the sun set behind us. Shot this with iPhone and tweaked it with Ps.com’s mobile app. I’ve definitely started drinking the Chase Jarvis Kool-Aid. Of course, I took some with the G9 too but without a laptop this is the only way to post for this trip.  Read More

Wyoming: Part 3

15 Hours That’s about how long it takes, including photo stops and lunch, to work your way through Grand Teton and then loop around Yellowstone, clockwise. We were up at 4:30. No coffee until we hit Signal Mountain around 7:00. Actually, make that exactly 7:00. We arrived as the store clerk did. But the morning hours are worth it, being out before the day’s gotten too old, you get better light (unless you’re lucky and storm rolls... Read More

Wyoming: Part 2

Jetlag and Whitewater Sometimes, jetlag can be your friend. Saturday, the plan was to go to the morning-after breakfast in Jackson, then chill out until we joined a bunch of folks from the wedding for a white water rafting trip on the Snake River. Welcome to Mountain Time, eastcoaster. So, you’re in Teton Village. It’s 05:30 and you’re awake with your camera equipment. Not too many options come to mind. Have to be at breakfast in... Read More

Wyoming: Part 1

Weddings and Recon Earlier this month we found ourselves heading to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. In a word it was a fantastic trip. That’s more than one word, but you get the point. Laura had never seen Yellowstone. I’d been once, but I was a kid. Maybe eight years old. I think I was younger to be honest so, I don’t know if that counts. Actually, it probably does. But more on that later. The occasion for us to go was for Mona and Will’s... Read More

Waiting in Dallas

We’re off to Jackson Hole. Specifically the portion of our trip spent at DFW. It’s a nice enough airport. I mean, the runways are paved. So that’s a good thing. Checking on email and then off to find a cold beverage.  Read More

Lebanon

Lebanon. So much to see. So much to shoot. I hope to get back soon. #gallery-2 { margin: auto; } #gallery-2 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-2 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-2 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; }  Read More
