I had to tear through the Lebanon work for a boundary 2 cover last month. And as I was doing it, I realized that there was a great February wallpaper hiding. Actually there were a couple. Why is this a great February wallpaper? I don’t really know. Maybe the Cherub statue could be mistaken for Cupid? Maybe I’m trying to make up for putting barbwire up last February?

Well, whatever works for you. The truth is this is from a cemetery in northern Lebanon. Not too far from Tripoli.

But if you want to call it a Cupid, I won’t tell anyone.

August 2011 Wallpaper

So last week I made the call to go to SCCA’s Solo National Championship again this year. It’s been a tough year across the board—and I’m still feeling a little behind to be honest, but I’ve actually got two of the best co-drivers on the planet so it’s hard to say no. Besides, there’s a therapeutic aspect of spending a week on an airport runway in Lincoln, Nebraska, right?

Anyhow, you’re probably wondering—what the hell this has to do with the August wallpaper. Fair enough. I grabbed this shot earlier this year on the way back from the Lincoln Doubleheader. I’m not entirely sure why I like it.

Is it the weird combination of the industrial and agrarian? The sky? Maybe I’m just happy I snagged it at 70 miles per hour with an iPhone.

Anyhow, I hate talking about work. You guys should do that instead in the comments below. Or not.

Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy it.

2011 July Wallpaper

Sorry for the delay, but I hope it was worth the wait. I was hard at work up north getting this shot for you. Okay. I was also there for a wedding. And July 3 shenanigans in Manomet. And then a bunch of work was awaiting me—actually some of it was here before I left.

Anyhow, this was shot the evening of July 4—just as the sun was starting to set and the natives were preparing for round two of fireworks on the beach. I only brought the little LX5 with me. It really is a great little camera. I just need to remind my self to use it more often. The allure of the iPhone and Instagram’s. . . well. . . instant gratification is strong.

I’ve got another handful of digging out to take care of this weekend but hope to get back into photo mode early next week and see if there’s anything good

2011 June Wallpaper

Got back late last night from Lincoln Spring Nationals. In honor of being in a car for almost 24 hours coming back I present this road shot from Wyoming. Which is quite a bit further away from me than Lincoln.

More later. I’m actually too tired to type much longer.

The usual drill, with the unusual aspect of the one-size fits most phenomena.

Seriously though, if this one-size fits all approach is a hardship, comment below and I’ll get back on the stick.

2011 May Wallpaper

I’ve been overwhelmed the last few weeks. More on that in another post, but please accept my apologies for the one size, fits all approach to this month’s wallpaper. It’s literally the best I could do. It’s an oversized cinema aspect wallpaper. It should hold up to about a 17″ MacBook Pro without issue.

In 2001, I was lucky enough to go to Kyoto with my parents. It was actually a trip back for my father who’d been stationed there during his service with the U.S. Army. It was a fantastic trip. While he was there with the army, and there for good stretch, I’m not sure how much of it he actually saw. But I know we saw a lot of it that week we were there. Not all by any means.

Often it was the little things I remember the most. The noodle shop around the corner from our. . . let’s call it “college student suited” hotel to the fantastic sushi we had with one of Laura’s cousins and his adopted Kyoto family. We walked all over that city visiting—I don’t know how many—temples and gardens.

My parents were so patient as I obsessed about getting some shots in a few places, slipping out early in the morning to catch some of the good light and insisting that the film be hand checked in the airport (yes, this was still on film).

I called this shot “Prayer Tree” and I hope to go back one day to tie one myself.

Just in the nick of time apparently. Managed to pull some things out of boxes (yes, we’ve actually moved now, more on that later). And fished this shot from Cinque Terre out of the archives. A little color to celebrate March and a short lived run of nice, dare I say it, spring-like weather.

Shot just a few weeks ago, this week’s wallpaper could qualify as a self-portrait I guess. So, yeah, technically I’m suggesting a picture of me on your desktop. But it’s not really that bad.

The above is great for cinema aspect laptops. Grab a nice desktop cinema or a 4:3 if you roll old school.

Closing out the year with wishful thinking. Took these up at Durant Nature Park the last decent snow we had here.

Last year about this time of year I was in New Orleans and Biloxi. Shot this during one evening in a cemetery right off Beach Boulevard in Biloxi. Maybe it’s because I’m writing this on Halloween that I got drawn to a cemetery set for this month’s wallpaper. Or maybe it’s because I’m heading back that direction later this month—a bit more east though for Tupelo and Memphis.

Either way, enjoy.

Been spending a lot of time in Durham lately, so in honor of that this month’s wallpaper is a shot from 2003. It’s pre-renovation Baldwin Lofts. If memory serves me correctly this is now the home of Revolution. I’m not sure why I like this shot. I called it “Canvas.” Maybe it’s just the idea of a blank three dimensional space, waiting to become something. That and I’ve been feeling some film nostalgia these days.
