A couple of weeks ago I managed to get away to a Solo Pro Driving School. Grabbed the Type R which Jim had loaded up with 8 Hoosiers and took my chances. This was the extreme school and it’s literally an entire season’s worth of autocross in two days, with top level instructors telling you what you’re doing wrong.

Then showing you data to back it up. You could also just call it awesome.

I’d apparently been developing horrible habits the last few years, and while I can’t say definitively that I’ve exorcised those demons, at least I’m aware of them now. And, as NBC likes to say, “The More You Know. . . .”

The car is pretty brutal to front tires. Full-disclaimer, none of these were fresh when the weekend started. But still. Also, to be fair, the really bad ones started cording on the inside. I’d normally not let them get that bad before calling it, but I was right. The car definitely picked up a bit of push in towards the end of those sessions.

These were shot with the iPhone. In craptacular light. The only work they got was a quick converting to black and white and contrast bump in Aperture.

Yes, August wallpaper (as pointed out by several of you) was running late. In honor of that, it’s also rusty and beat all to hell.

This was taken here in Raleigh actually back at Pilot Mill. It’s a detail from a found art display in their parking lot. I haven’t gotten anything better than a guess: Reclaimed from a building-wide pneumatic system. You know for delivering messages like at a drive-up teller window. Or, say Brazil.

The spread of American culture is like kudzu. Lots of countries have, in the past looked, to us. For better or for worse. Mere days after the Deepwater Horizon spill in the gulf is mostly, kind-of-sort-of contained, China has it’s own to contend with.

Pilot Mill

We’ve been doing some work for a new client who’s office is over in Pilot Mill—one of the early brownfield projects here in Raleigh. It’s this great example of reclaimed space. A huge mill in it’s golden years and now some nice commercial space in one of my favorite parts of town.

Anyhow, the site we were working on needed some simple accent shots. Some texture. A little flavor of the space they’re in. So, on the way to grab dinner one night, we swung in. Took a look. And I grabbed the GF1 and away we go. Got what I needed, but, like a kid, I had to go look at the trains.

2010 Appetite for Art

A long time ago (not really that long ago but some). A buddy of mine asked if I could donate some time to help design some work for a charity event benefiting Boys & Girls Clubs of Wake County. Over time that event and Sky2x Creative’s involvement has evolved in to Appetite for Art. It’s promising to be a great event and if you’re in the Raleigh area and want a fun night out and have it go to a good cause, by tickets and show up.

Oh. And the reason for posting this to begin with: I couldn’t let Sky2x have all the fun so I’m donating a print. It’s from an early show of mine. Shot in New Mexico and printed by the brilliant Jennifer Bisbing.
